My partner and I engaged Hector Mendoza at Wise Redwood a few weeks ago to perform weeding, spreading mulch, power-washing the driveway, patio and walkways, as well as hauling, spreading and tamping oyster shells and skimming dead remains of moss on our older bocce court.
I must comment that Hector (and his crew) are the most professional and courteous hired-help we have encountered to this date. I will relate that we bought a house in need of considerable rehab before we could truly feel at home, and we have hired numerous persons and entities to remediate the errors and lapses of the builder and previous occupant.
Upon arrival at the outset of the first day, Hector introduced me to his three hands: R, M and J. In the process R seemed to be in charge, but he was the most difficult to converse with (language ignorances) and I wound up spending time advising M and J, or answering the question M and J had for me.
There were two minor glitches on day one: R used our hose hanging on a rack secured to the exterior wall for the washing of the patio. R did not return it thereafter to the rack upon finishing or at the end of the day. Finally, M and I discussed the working on the bocce court and later J joined the task with M. and began not fulfilling that goal. Hector should empower his workers in such a context to "correct" another worker who assumes a task and who does not fulfill the goals of the prior conversation between the property-owner and a second worker, in this case M.
Only R, M and J performed the tasks on day one. They were all, except as noted, exceedingly thorough and most competent, professional and polite.
As I supervised 99% of the work done, I will say that while a few tasks remain undone necessitating a return in a few days, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with Hector, R, M and J again! (Frankly, I do not understand why other persons and entities in this area are not equally polite and professional as I experienced at this time. IT IS a people-interfacing business!)
